Pride Month - LGBTQ Populations @ Greater Risk for Fentanyl Overdose & Substance Abuse

Updated: Feb 11, 2023

In honor of pride month FentStrips.com is giving away free fentanyl tests strips + $5 off all orders of $20+ all month long.

According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), those that identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual are signficantly more at risk for substance abuse than heterosexual individuals. The study found the following:

Population

Marijuana Use

Opioid or Heroin Use

Heterosexual 18+

16.2%

3.8%

LGBTQ 18+

37.6%

9%

The most recent report that distinguished the LGBTQ population and was published in November 2020 showed that usage increased for both Opioids and Heroin in the LGBTQ populations

According to the American Addiction Centers the reasons for this increased predisposition in the LGBTQ community while not completely understood can include the following:

"LGBTQ individuals face a number of challenges their heterosexual peers don’t. These challenges include:

  • Being stigmatized or discriminated against

  • Emotional abuse, bullying, hate crimes or ridicule

  • Rejection from family or friends

  • Self-hatred

  • Loss of employment

Braving high-stress environments on a day-to-day basis takes a toll, and members of the LGBTQ community turn to opioid drugs wrongly believing that taking pain killers might help them cope with their situation"

The fact that the LGBTQ is more prone to Opioid and Heroin use also means that naturally, there is a higher risk for exposure to a deadly dose of Fentanyl.

To support awareness in the LGBTQ community we are giving away a free BTNX fentanyl test strip all month long when you add a single test strip to your cart and use code: PRIDEFREE

Additionally we are running promo for $5 off any order over $20 using code: PRIDE5
